Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is a great smartphone but not a great selfie phone
Xiaomi has been hitting all the right boxes for years in row when it comes to building and marketing the budget Smartphone. Its competitors have been offering high end selfie Smartphone for quite some time and they have simply created a new market segment which caters to the need of the selfie lovers. Xiamoi is looking forward to get a pie of this segment with the launch of the Redmi Y series Smartphone which focuses on the ‘selfie’. Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is the first selfie focused Smartphone from the Chinese giant which has become the ‘No. 1 Smartphone brand’ in India.
Simple & Elegant design of Redmi Y1
Xiaomi has made slight changes to the Redmi Y design but it is still reminiscent of the Redmi series which has become a force in the budget market segment. It has minimalistic look and feels like metal though Xiaomi has used plastic body for this device. It is quite easy to grip and all the functions can be performed single handedly without any issues. This Smartphone will be made available in Gold and Dark Grey colour variants only. It is has screen size of 5.5 inch HD with 720×1280 pixels resolution which helps in offering good colour reproduction and viewing angles to the users.
Redmi Y1 Keeping ‘selfie lovers’ in mind
For selfie lovers Xiaomi has brought 16 MP front camera with F/2.0 aperture and a wide angle sensor of 76.4 degree and the much needed flash support to brighten up the selfies. On eth rear end users will get 13 MP camera with PDAF and f/2.2 aperture. Redmi Y1 also boasts of the beauty feature which helps in enhancing the intricate details of selfies and makes it more appealing and captivating than before. Xiaomi has provided users with a remarkable camera app which loaded with a wide range of features to make taking photos an engaging task. Users can make use of variety of filters to give a new feel to their images. It also has panorama, manual and beautify modes along with timer functionality which essentially makes photography a breeze on this device.
Redmi Y1: Great performance as needed
Xiaomi like Redmi Y1 devices doesn’t cut corners when it comes to performance and Redmi Y1 comes in two storage variants of 3GB RAM with 32 Internal storage and 4GB RAM with 64 GB Internal storage. This Smartphone runs on the Xiaomi own skin called MIUI which is based on the Android 7.1 Nougat. It is powered by Xiaomi favorite chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 which is good enough to handle multitasking, gaming, media and much more.
Redmi Y1 comes loaded with a variety of pre-installed apps like WPS office, UC nEws, Amazon Shopping apart from the native apps like Mi Store, Mi Drop, Mi Remote, Mi Browser and others which are aimed at removing the need of downloading essential apps upon buying the device. Overall Redmi Y1 is great Smartphone though it lacks in certain areas when compared to other selfie focused Smartphone on the block.
